Anonymity Enchantment

Huffily shuffling his notes, Mr. Cinnamon said: “In the hours after the attack, several survivors allegedly saw a magician investigating the museum, concealing their face with an Anonymity Enchantment.”

- Chapter 12, Spirit Rider: The Royal Problem

~~~
The imposter’s features were snow-pale but strangely blurred, as if Sam was seeing them through textured glass.
- Chapter 19, Spirit Rider: The Royal Problem
~~~

Incantation: Olsime Thanen Ejohad

Magical Art: Crypturgy

Appearance: Blaze of white light obscures the target's face, leaving it blurred and undefined afterwards

Effect: Blurs facial features and alters the target's voice so they cannot be easily identified

Notes:

  • Naturally targets the face but can be expanded to cover the entire body, to obscure identifying marks etc.

Beacon Enchantment

“No, all of her assigned Beacon Enchantments were in place,” Mr. Cinnamon said and gestured to the ribbon and spectacles beside Lady Rosemary’s bed.

            Catching Sam’s enquiring glance, Grim said, “You attach a Beacon Enchantment to precious people or items, so they can be easily found if they’re lost or stolen.”

- Chapter 11, Spirit Rider: The Royal Problem

~~~
Incantation: Vydal Wised Norrew
Magical Art: Artemurgy
Appearance: Orb of blue light
Effect: Transmits a signal which allows the enchantment to be located wherever it is in the world
Notes:
  • Naturally comes with Source Runes, so that the Beacon Enchantment can only be detected by those whom the caster wishes to inform.
  • Source Runes are mentally chosen by the caster at the moment the Beacon Enchantment is cast.
  • Should the caster fail to choose Source Runes or think too unclearly, then none will be attached to the Beacon Enchantment and it will be tracible by the most basic Detection Enchantment - assuming said enchantment is close enough.
Condensing Enchantment
Acheron brandished his wand at the vanishing clouds in the shattered glass and those still left were sucked into his wand, becoming a shining point of light at the tip.
- Chapter 21, Spirit Rider: The Royal Problem
~~~

"... He used a Condensing Enchantment to capture any information he could..."

- Chapter 22, Spirit Rider: The Royal Problem

~~~
Incantation: Loatgif Lichseln
Magical Art: Lexicurgy
Appearance: Ghostly green reflections of information from a source are condensed into a single green spec of light
Effect: Copies (potential) written information into an easily transportable form
Notes:
  • Intended to work with directly written information.
  • Using the Condensing Enchantment on a source such as a printed book without proper authorisation could see you charged with copyright infringement.
  • Can potentially be used on a source where the information is not visually written but can be interpreted as such.
Detection Enchantment
She muttered an incantation under her breath then opened one gloved hand, where a golden orb hovered above her palm.
- Chapter 15, Spirit Rider: The Royal Problem
~~~

“Remains to be seen.” Grim brought the enchantment in her palm to eye-level, watching it intently.

             “What is that?” Sam asked.

             “Detection Enchantment.”

- Chapter 15, Spirit Rider: The Royal Problem

~~~
Incantation: Wishmo Leden
Magical Art: Artemurgy
Appearance: Golden orb
Effect: Detects the heartbeats of nearby living creatures
Notes:
  • The Detection Enchantment will pulse in accordance with how many distinct entities are nearby.
  • A well-trained Artemurge will further be able to determine the direction and proximity of any nearby entities by studying the more minute movements and fluctuations of the Detection Enchantment.
Facade Enchantment
The ‘magician’ grinned, then reached for his chest and ripped off his own body — face, cloak and all tearing away as if it was merely a costume — and revealing the Reaper standing in its place. She dropped the magical disguise and it fell softly to the floor, crumpling in on itself like a paper-bag, before dissolving.
- Chapter 8, Spirit Rider: The Royal Problem
~~~

“... I was wearing a Facade Enchantment.” Grim pointed her scythe at the spot where her magical disguise had vanished. “It’s delicate, yes, but perfectly cloaks you as someone else..."

- Chapter 8, Spirit Rider: The Royal Problem

~~~
Incantation: Enila Sprune
Magical Art: Crypturgy
Appearance: Ghostly reflection of the target is pulled away from them - recipient of the Facade then takes on their appearance, voice etc.
Effect: Allows a person to appear, sound, etc. exactly like another person
Notes:
  • Highly delicate magic - regardless of additional augmers, the Facade Enchantment will be broken by any swift or sharp movement, with the person wearing the Facade appearing to literally tear out of it.
  • The Facade Enchantment creates a constant image of the target at the moment it is cast and cannot be altered. E.g. a bleeding wound would bleed indefinitely, tangled hair would be unable to be straightened etc.
  • The Facade Enchantment replicates 'surface' details only so whilst a magician could feasibly produce a Facade of an atlantien - this would not allow them to breathe underwater.
  • The Facade Enchantment permits some 'leeway' where the caster may not be the precise size of the target Facade. There is a limit of only a few feet either way. A magician may produce a Facade of a mouse or dragon but in either case the magic would collapse as soon as the magician tried to wear it.
  • Whilst designed to be cast from living entities, a Facade can be created from a non-sentient source. Assuming the magician is an appropriate size they can wear this, however they would be unable to move and have significantly dampened senses.
Miniaturising Enchantment
Once there, Grim cast a Miniaturising Enchantment on his few belongings and attached them to her belt
- Chapter 15, Spirit Rider: The Royal Problem
~~~

Incantation: Zicst Quejasp

Magical Art: Formurgy

Appearance: Green glow surrounds the target

Effect: Significantly reduces a target's size.

Notes:

  • The enchantment does NOT affect the target's weight.
  • Whilst the enchantment defaults to recuing the target to fit in the palm of a magician's hand, a more-practiced caster can control the size the target is reduced to.
  • The enchantment is generally considered to be low impact to any competent magician's power.

Oath Enchantment

“An Oath Enchantment,” the Reaper said, then nodded to the jaserta. “I bet you were so confident you could kill the Spirit Rider for Acheron. You bet your life on it and Acheron was only too happy to take you up on that offer.”

- Chapter 5, Spirit Rider: The Royal Problem

~~~
Incantation: Atapka Quilake Nelepeth Shumla
Magical Art: Lexicurgy
Appearance: Yellow light flows from the caster's hand as the enchantment's terms are set - also from the hand of any other party when the enchantment is confirmed - finally surrounding all parties when the enchantment's terms are completed or failed
Effect: Creates a binding magical contract between one or more people - with specific emphasis on the Oath Enchantment forcing the parties to 'keep up their end of the bargain' once terms set have been met
Notes:
  • Highly complex magic - this has at various times been reclassified as a spell or even a ritual (though it connects to no known Magistruct) due to the nature of the 'directions' required to cast the enchantment:
  1. The caster must speak the incantation in the presence of those who will be part of the enchantment and name them and themselves as the people bound by the Oath Enchantment.
  2. The caster must then speak the terms - what they / someone present will do e.g. "I (specify your name) will go to xyz..." / "You (name the person) will bring me (name) abc..."
  3. The caster must then speak the exchange - what will happen once the terms are completed - can be from either party, signified by saying "In exchange..." e.g. "In exchange, I (name) will pay you (name) 500 Rauds" / "In exchange you (name) will give me (name) your shirt.((IMPORTANT - The exchange is a key part of the Oath Enchantment and so must be something which is physically possible for the magic to enforce. For example, the exchange cannot be that someone will forget they met a given person (as this would be magic of the mind - the Lost Art of Psychurgy).))
  4. The caster must then speak the caveat - what will happen if the terms are not met, to be specified by saying "If the terms are not met..." e.g. "If the terms are not met, I (name) will give you (name) my shirt" / "If the terms are not met, you (name) will pay me (name) 500 Rauds" ((IMPORTANT - As with the exchange, the caveat is a key part of the Oath Enchantment and so must be something which is physically possible for the magic to enforce. For example, the caveat cannot be that someone will burst into flames (as this would be magic of the elements - the Lost Art of Elemurgy) - but COULD still be that the person will die.))
  5. Once all the above has been laid out, the caster must offer their hand to all those named parties of the Oath Enchantment. The named parties must then confirm "I (name) assent to the terms, exchange, and caveat laid out by (name)" and must then shake hands with the caster. ((IMPORTANT - Should any intended party NOT agree to any part of the Oath Enchantment, they need only say so and the enchantment cast so far will fail, meaning the caster will need to begin the process again (likely with new terms). By that same hand, it is the responsibility of anyone who assents to an Oath Enchantment to make sure they fully understand the terms, exchange, and caveat. The Oath Enchantment makes no distinction between someone who assents under duress or who didn't pay attention to the precise wording of the terms, exchange, or caveat.))
  6. The caster must then repeat the incantation once more to finalise the Oath Enchantment.
  • Notoriously intricate once cast by even a novice magician, an Oath Enchantment can be very difficult to remove by force.
  • The Oath Enchantment is traditionally performed audibly and with a clasping of hands, but when relevant augmers are cast, the terms, exchange etc. can be conveyed in writing for example.
Rabbitification Enchantment
A few days later, transformed into a rabbit, Sam zipped across the snowy Palace Gardens. His lessons with Grim didn’t often venture from the Terrace, but as Sam was trying out transformative enchantments, they opted to go somewhere with a little more room.
                 The powdery snow was cold against Sam’s delicate paws, but his slick coat warmed the rest of his body. I really love eating vegetables and hopping, Sam reminded himself, trying to keep the enchantment going, as he scampered past Grim and sprang over a frozen bird-bath. Whilst his ‘definitely a rabbit’ thoughts ran on a loop, he tried to keep one imaginary finger on the enchantment itself. Sam found enchantments were a balancing act — concentrate on it too hard and you can’t do anything else, but don’t concentrate enough and —
                With a puff of white smoke, Sam was himself again, crouched on all fours and feeling quite ridiculous. “Sorry,” he said as Grim stomped over. “The transformation ones are really hard.”
- Chapter 12, Spirit Rider: The Royal Problem
~~~

“... So let’s get to it then, the Rabbitification Enchantment can be very useful if you can get a decent hold on it.”

- Chapter 12, Spirit Rider: The Royal Problem

~~~
Incantation: Cloot Esimu
Magical Art: Creturgy
Appearance: Bolt of silver light (at a distance), followed by a puff of white smoke when it makes contact
Effect: Transforms the target into a rabbit
Notes:
  • Should it be cast on a non-sentient target, the target will become rabbit-shaped.
Sealing Enchantment
... At its base a pair of large frosted-glass doors with gold edging formed the entrance. A strip of eerie red light shone between them.
          “Sealing Enchantment,” Grim said.
- Chapter 20, Spirit Rider: The Royal Problem
~~~

Incantation: Zitma Ziptil

Magical Art: Sancturgy

Appearance: Strip of red light glows between / around (a) door(s)

Effect: Stops (a) door(s) being opened by force

Notes:

  • Considered a more-robust form of the Locking Enchantment

Slugification Enchantment

The Reaper whipped about and jabbed a finger at him. A wave of yellow light threw Sam from his feet, his body seeming to collapse in on itself, shrinking as the world around him suddenly magnified a thousand times. Still falling, his tiny body turned slick and grey — and he finally understood. He’d been turned into a slug. A smooth, gloved hand snatched him out of the air, the Reaper’s surprisingly gentle fingers closing around his soft slimy body.

- Chapter 3, Spirit Rider: The Royal Problem

~~~
“Careful where you stand, Mr. Cinnamon,” Grim warned, “looks like Acheron’s Slugification Enchantment was paired with a Repetition Augmer.”
- Chapter 13, Spirit Rider: The Royal Problem
~~~

Incantation: Unash Nuthos

Magical Art: Creturgy

Appearance: Bolt of yellow light

Effect: Transforms the target into a slug

Notes: NA

Verification Enchantment

“What are you doing?” Sam panicked as a band of green light appeared around his neck, the magic softly vibrating against his throat.

          “It’s called a Verification Enchantment,” Grim said. “It detects minute changes in body temperature, sweat levels, and heartbeats – all common signs of dishonesty.”

          “So it can tell if someone’s lying?”

          “It can suggest whether someone’s lying...”

- Chapter 10, Spirit Rider: The Royal Problem

~~~
Incantation: Hustolos Saraj Gunun
Magical Art: Tacturgy
Appearance: Band of green light around the target's throat - turns red when it detects subtle changes in the surface of the skin.
Effect: Registers minute changes in body temperature, sweat levels, and heartbeats
Notes:
  • Whilst commonly used to detect when a person is lying the Verification Enchantment can be 'tricked' by someone sufficiently trained or who has prepared accordingly. As such any confession / evidence received whilst under a Verification Enchantment is often inadmissible in trial.
