The Bazoul Fire-Pits

“Choose your words carefully,” Grim said with a spark of Hellfire, “otherwise I might ‘accidentally’ leave you in the Bazoul Fire-Pits..."

Chapter 16, Spirit Rider: The Royal Problem

~~~
In their ongoing war against the basilisks plaguing their homeland, the dragons have tried many and more tactics to halt the advance of their invasive opponents. One of the most successful, and most devastating, was the creation of the Bazoul Fire-Pits. Using the basilisks' own tunnels against them, the dragon Volcodians Archileo and Trupaclos jointly gave up their lives, collapsing their neighbouring volcanoes into the ground.
The destruction formed a series of immense fiery pits, miles wide, where flames and magma swirl to this day. So terrible was the event that it fractured the land, sending splits through the Appollion Desert to the north and the Nymbawood (now more commonly called the Fractured Wood) to the south. Ever since, the basilisks have proven unable to pass the Bazoul Fire-Pits above or below ground, earning the dragons a much-needed victory in their seemingly endless war.
